At St Ives we will be met and given a short guided walk for those wishing to partake. There will be time for a light lunch if required before we leave at 1.45pm for Fen Drayton. The lakes were created by quarrying for sand and gravel. These man-made lakes have become important for birds, insects and plants.
Fen Drayton was established in 2007 with the purchase of a privately-owned nature reserve, some adjacent lakes and washland. The lakes have different characteristics, which will influence the species you are likely to find on them. A group of volunteers will meet us, as arranged by the Warden, Neil Kinnock. Fen Drayton is an area nationally important for ducks, geese and swans in winter. Birds: migrating wading birds, great crested grebe, cuckoo, warblers, bittern.

All our activities are available to non members who we hope will eventually join the RSPB

On bird watching trips the main consideration must be for the welfare of the birds and care should be taken to avoid any action that may disturb them. This is most important when birds are nesting.

A "Notes for Birdwatchers" leaflet is available from the Outings Organiser.

All of our activities are available to non members who we hope will eventually join.

Please remember to bring your membership cards with you when visiting reserves otherwise a charge will be made.
