Peanuts

This is a word not to be said to Peter Newberry!  In 1995 he very kindly offered to take over the ordering, weighing, distributing and selling of bird food.  Pip Clark was one of those who always enjoyed his visits and chats. Peter quickly involved his wife Marion, sister Pam and her husband Len. The four of them took turns on duty at Monday evening meetings; they also attended every Fayre and Fete with their stall. Sadly Marion and Len are no longer here to give a hand.  Peter has decided it is time for a break – for the last 12 years he has been confined to his garden shed weighing out peanuts and bird seed!!

If there was no answer to the door, callers knew where to find him. Not one to give up easily, Peter had to feel relieved when Pat Budd offered to take over the job. Pat has taken over at a time when the price of peanuts has risen due to a general shortage – the Chinese have decided to use them as a by-product for bio fuel, creating a worldwide shortage.  Our apologies if prices have to be slightly raised, but this is the reason.  Aren’t we fortunate to have such valiant volunteers.

Our thanks to Peter and his team and to Pat.
