A big thank you to all those who support our Quiz Nights; it is a great way to raise funds for the RSPB. Everyone has a good night out and good company, whether they make up their own table or leave it to us to make a table of 8 - which means if there is only I, 2, 3...... persons you can happily come along and be assured that you will be placed in a team. There is always a break after round 5 to enjoy the excellent Ploughman’s provided. As always we can rely on Jan to come up with a great Quiz, keeping all on their toes; and, as has been commented ,before “you do not require a degree to sit on a chair.” The rounds cover a variety of topics and the questions are well balanced; this is what makes it an excellent evening, nobody goes home feeling totally ignorant!!

This time we had 12 teams; marks were once again running close; at half time it was neck and neck with three teams tying with 51. However, Marilyn Burgess’s team just managed to take first place with a score of 107, hotly pursued by John and Sylvia Bigley’s and Susan Anderson’s team who took second place with106. This was an example where two groups of four had been introduced to make a team of eight. In third place were Adrienne Burgess’s team with 105. In fourth place Wendy and Alan’s Clark’s team with 103; this is a team who has supported us from the very start and never missed an evening. In fifth place Jenny Arnold’s team with 101 ....... other marks followed in quick succession.

As always many thanks to my band of helpers - Ron Crummey and Deirdre Thompson who have been there every time since the first quiz in 1993, which was held in the 60 plus Centre. Olive Finch, who has also helped since 1993 had to miss this one as she is just recovering from a broken ankle. Our newer recruits are quickly becoming “old hands” - Jean Dand, Pat Budd, Marion Farr and Gill Barlow joined this time by Angela Hutchins. They all ensure that the evening gets off to a smooth start, and work like Trojans to see that the food is all ready and waiting before the evening commences. My grateful thanks to all. Thanks also to Marian Crecraft who does all the maths for the scores during the evening - whilst I just mark!

Our next quiz will be on Friday  5th March 2010 - Buy your tickets early!
