Quiz Night

by Frances Attrill

Once again I am pleased to report that we had another successful Quiz Night on 8 October, held in King Charles the Martyr Church Hall. Jan’s quizzes are very popular. We were able to run 9 teams. Friends visiting us came along and thoroughly enjoyed the evening; they remarked on the good level of the questions and the fact that people were not too serious; there is always laughter at various points in the evening.

As always my faithful band of helpers made all flow easily. They arrived shortly after 6 o’clock ready to start preparing for the evening; assisting the caretaker in setting up tables and very efficiently dealing with the food for the ploughman’s. My grateful thanks to Ron, Olive, Deirdre, Pat and Jean; not forgetting Marian Crecraft who also assists (actually, in this, I’m the assistant!) in the marking and Jan who is there for any jobs before the evening commences and is also our excellent Quiz Mistress.

Our thanks go to Alan Clark who most generously donated the ham for 75 persons. Alan and his wife Wendy have come to every Quiz night we have held, bringing a team of friends with them; it is their support and the continuing support of others that make our
evenings a success. Thank you all.

The marks ranged from 99 to 112 out of a possible 130, reflecting once again how close the scores were. We had two teams tie first; an RSPB team under Ron Crummey’s guidance with Pamela Moore, Deirdre Thompson, Olive Finch, Marion Farr, Gill Barlow and Don and Joan Wigmore; the other team was Adrienne Burgess’s from Laings.

The evening was a great success in every way and raised £415.50. Many thanks to all of those who supported us. The next Quiz will be on the first Monday in March 2008.
